Now it’s “meccano: 3D Movie” (no kidding)

Toy Fair 2010 in New York is underway, ergo the announcement that plans for a new movie franchise based on a toy. The propeller indie Films today announced an exclusive partnership with Meccano Toy Company to develop a 3D feature film based on the Erector Set brand of construction toys for children. While story details are kept secret, the film will be “a family fantasy adventure”The agreement marks the first time GM has licensed the film rights to his toys, but television and video games are also contemplated.

Invented in England by Frank Hornby in 1901, Meccano was designed as a toy building system model comprising metal strips usable again, plates, angle girders, wheels, axles and gears, with nuts and bolts to connect the pieces. The toy was sold under the “Erector Set” of the brand in the U.S. since 1913, and Meccano / Meccano toy products currently sold in over 80 countries
